Cable clutter is the devil.

Yesterday, Lena and I did a long run. I started out with six miles on my own. After a long weekend of moving, my legs took several miles to loosen up, but my splits were decent:
  • Mile 1 - 10:42
  • Mile 2 - 10:14
  • Mile 3 - 10:08
  • Mile 4 - 10:09
  • Mile 5 - 9:55
  • Mile 6 - 10:00
Lena had nine miles on schedule, so we met up and headed out together by 7:45am. Here are our splits:
  • Mile 7 - 10:05
  • Mile 8 - 9:52
  • Mile 9 - 10:17
  • Mile 10 - 10:22
  • Mile 11 - 10:01
  • Mile 12 - 9:45
  • Mile 13 - 9:53
  • Mile 14 - 10:12
  • Mile 15 - 9:47
We maintained about 10:00 min/mile pace for the nine miles we ran together, which is speedier than we normally run. I took a GU at Mile 8, but I definitely started to run out of steam in the last four miles.

I insisted that we stop at McDonald's so I could refill my water bottle. Oddly enough, at 8:30am on Monday mornings, Mickey D's apparently is the hang-out for senior citizens. Who knew? Lena and I were not in the geriatrics club, so they just stared at us like we were aliens. And I guess we did look kind of strange, sweating all over the floor and drinking water from the fountain.

We did an easy two-mile walk this morning. Now, I'm off to do some Latin, but I will leave you with pictures of the new kitchen:

The pantry, which the boyfriend calls "the servant quarters". We don't have any servants.

And here we are on the front stops. This picture is mostly unremarkable, except that I think I finally have something approaching "runner legs". Maybe just "runner calves".

Finally, I had to plug in my USB hub and my printer yesterday, and I'm already have a freakin'
panic attack
about how shitty the tangle of cables looks behind my desk.

I haven't even unpacked my speakers yet because it requires the hook-up of about 483243 too-long wires, and the cable clutter makes me uncomfortable and really grouchy. [While staring at the back of our heinous TV/DVD/Cable box set-up, I might have just screamed, "We can't live like this!"]

I hate unruly, unwieldy spaghetti cables. They might be my biggest pet peeve. Ever. Does anyone have any advice for cable management systems?

Check out that huge kitchen - wow!

The fiance had these velcro cord keepers that work really well. They have all black or colored ones so you can know what the cords are for.

Wow check out the new digs! It's spacious!

I can't stand cable clutter either. I have always managed to hide it behind something (like a desk that has a back part to it).

Great job on the run! Sounds like you guys crashed the McDonald's party.

Looks like you have a great area to cook.

Love the new space. Sorry about the cordage. I just try not to look under my desk...it's a crazy tangle or cords.

haha...I wasn't lying about the McD's folks when I did the same thing a few weeks ago. It starts as early as 5 or 6, apparently. par-tay.

your apartment is HUGE. That is all to say. Wait, no, can I come live with you? I'll bring a cat. and mad baking skillz.

would you like me to fedex you a maid from here?
one of the wires in that last pic had a solution to long cables- wrangle the extra length and use a twisty thing to tie it up.

is that a house or apt? It's pretty ginormo. Esp compared to the old place (I think, based on pics anyway).

15 MILES! You're a stud-ette. :) Great job and awesome pace throughout.

Tou rock! Look at you churning out 15 miles like it's nothing.

Don't ask me about cables...my workspace is the messiest ever...and I am too lazy too do anything about it.

Here is a collection of posts from Lifehacker focused on Cable Management. Ikea sells these grey tubes that you can put the cables in so at least there is only one. I would highly recommend what I think is the first post - having some sort of box that will hold power strips, big plugs etc.

The new place looks great!

Twist ties or zip ties maybe? I use like a million of them and it makes my room look like a neater sort of messy. :)

That kitchen is freaking HUGE. DIZZAMMMNN!!

I love your new kitchen! If I have that kind of kitchen, I think I will non-stop cooking and baking, hehehe....

Love the kitchen pics! And I can TOTALLY see your runner calves in girl! I'm a cord hider too (behind furniture). My husband found some solution where you get a CD spindle and drill it to the wall behind furniture- then wrap all of the cords around it. It helps a lot! (sounds a little lame though!) Great run BTW!!

cable management huh?? Well I bought some multi-colored velcro strips from something like office depot and they hold bundles of wire together! Alternatively, you can also get giant desk with a tiny hole just for all the wires to pass through. Then all the mess will be behind your desk so you don't see any evil! TADA!!!!!!!

oH!! And september in chicago is FABULOUS!!! I'll be just done with my move out and awayyyy from one of my scary room mates. Phew. And will have lots of time to frolic!!!

Gah, I hate tangled cords. My computer desk has a mess of them and it drives me bonkers.

Love the BIG new kitchen. hehe, servant's quarters...

Yay for a new kitchen. I cannot wait to see all the yummy creations that are made there.

I HATE cords too.

Great job on the 15. You're becoming a long run rock star. 10 min pace is so great!

We sure were speedy for feeling so poopy! Those few over 10:10 were when we stopped for Gu, to be gawked at by the elderly, etc. So when you look at those splits, esp with your 6 miles before our run, it's AWESOME! You are rocking and after that movie I am so inspired to train as hard as you!! :-)

nice job on the 15 miler girl! your runs are getting up there :)

I used to work at McD's and the same elderly people would come in every morning and order the same thing. It was cute.

You could put the cables together and use zip ties. That stuff makes us crazy too. We have a lot of our electronics (not computers) wired through the wall so we don't have to look at cords.
