I ran four miles yesterday (after pounding out a whopping three on the treadmill next to Jessica on Friday morning). I'd like to run more, but I'm continuing to take it easy for my knee and tendinitis.
Here are my splits, mostly negative:
- Mile 1 - 10:22
- Mile 2 - 9:43
- Mile 3 - 9:44
- Mile 4 - 9:35
In the afternoon, I made a large pot of aloo gobi using the recipe (linked) from the Bend It Like Beckham DVD. I like that version because it has tomatoes and turns out saucy.
The boyfriend is, unfortunately, one of those people who hate cilantro. As far as I can tell, it has something to do with genetics. (Other people with a similar aversion claim that it tastes "soapy". He says, "It just tastes bad.")
Unfortunately, I love cilantro. In fact, I'd probably name my first-born child "Cilantro" if I could. Because it comes in everything delicious (Indian, Mexican, Asian), I usually have to make a separate, cilantro-less batch. Yesterday, I ended up using half flat-leaf parsley and half cilantro.
In the late afternoon, I attended Liz's ice performance with the local synchronized skating team. She did a great job, and I was totally impressed with the level of synchronicity between all the team mates. The French department had a good showing:
Apparently, the ice skating "exhibition" was like a recital for all the different skating levels. Yay for "Tiny Tots on Ice":
I may have also cheered for and yelled at ("CALL ME!") the zamboni driver during the intermission. What can I say? Zamboni drivers are sexy!
For dinner, the boyfriend and I brought the aloo gobi as our contribution to an Indian feast with Jessica and Matt.
Among the other dishes were Matt's kashmiri chicken, Jessica's three-bean daal, and vegetables in a yogurt sauce. As I am not a food blogger, I forgot about taking pictures until we had put everything away in the fridge:
Whoops.
Tomorrow, Frenchie friend is going under the knife for a neuter surgery. (His breeder said it would be better to do it now so that the stress of changing homes doesn't compromise his recovery later. Plus, I trust her to have a good vet.) Cross your fingers that it goes well!

I LOVE cilantro! I feel like it makes everything tastes better.
Oh...and...I'm glad he shaved off that 'stache.
I'm so relived that you don't have to spend any more time with that mustache - it was downright frightening.
But you may not want to trust me, as I too am a cilantro hater. It's the smell that gets me. If I can smell it and know that it's coming, it ruins the entire dish.
I, too, think cilantro tastes like soap. I also can't drink gin because it tastes too much like the pine trees it came from.
And how fun to see your friend do her skating routine!
I'm not looking forward to running outside this winter either. But I can't believe I did almost all my training on the treadmill last winter. Blech. I bought myself some YakTrax towards the end of the snow and ice season, though, so I'm hoping that will help.
I love Bend it Like Beckham! I should see if Steven wants to watch that tonight.
I love cilantro. My mom thinks it tastes like dirty dishrags! We joke that we put it in everything we make her...
I think a spring race is a great idea! I am already signed up for a 5K in the end of Feb!
yay spring races sound like a good idea to me!!
Spring...is it here yet?!?!?!
Mmm cilantro is soooooo yummy.
I must admit ... I don't love cilantro myself :s. A little is okay, but a little is all I can take.
I used to hate cilantro. Then one day I realized how it makes certain foods taste so much better, and now i'm hooked.
I loved that movie Bend It Like Beckham!
That dish looks freakin good. AND I love cilantro!
Also, Pippin is getting neutered in like two weeks :-/ ha
I love cilantro too. People who don't like it, don't know what they're missing.
I love cilantro! It's so good, I can't imagine people not liking it. Kind of like how the famous Kath doesn't like onions...I can't believe it!
A girl I went to high school with did synchronized skating at Illinois! Impressive. :)
I will not miss running in January in Chicago...the total definition of miserable...
bad...I wish you were a food blogger. I'll bet most of your stuff are pretty darn tasty.
Hey, I'm a cilantro-lover, too! I don't understand people who hate it...my bro hates it, too!
Mmmm...cilantro is yummy!
and you should totally be a food blogger for a day...i would love to see your eats!
Ha, I laughed when I saw the boyfriend mustached. You could tell him he should try to get a late start on the whole "beard-vember" thing this month... Haha, or not. Anyways, I can totally relate to the whole food blogger fail thing too :)
I forgot to check for Daddy's Hungry Suit at Family Video yesterday. I'll go into that "special" section soon for your benefit. and my amusement. me = sketchball.
I hope Tarzan/Rugby/Doughnut is not too sad to be....emasculated. Better, though, because you don't want non-purebred-Frenchies on your hands.
I'll be thinking of frenchie friend!! It will go well - no doubt!! I love cilantro too - but could honestly do without it if I had to (just don't tell anyone!)
I'm glad you're easing back into running and that it's going well!!
